Friends and Family, we are reaching out for extra love and support for Layla Brown and her family.

Please read below to learn more about why we’re asking for support, including Layla’s journey, her next steps, and the current amount needed to care for her during this time. Most importantly, we are seeking a kidney donor. We understand that this is a significant decision, and we know it may come with concerns or questions. Please find more information below on what to do next if you are willing to undergo testing to determine if you are a match and could potentially save her life.

About:

Layla had routine bloodwork done on May 3rd after experiencing migraine headaches, fatigue, and sudden, extreme high blood pressure readings that began in January. The bloodwork results indicated potential acute kidney failure. On May 22nd, further labs were conducted, and on June 13th, she was referred to a renal doctor. After more labs and an ultrasound, which showed no abnormalities, her blood analysis worsened, indicating acute renal failure. A renal biopsy was then performed, confirming a chronic kidney condition known as Immunoglobulin A Nephropathy (IGA) and the need for a kidney transplant. She was immediately ordered to begin dialysis due to dangerously high creatinine and potassium levels in her blood.

What’s Next:

Layla has an upcoming appointment at Houston Methodist (J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center) with a team of specialists to start the process of finding a kidney match.

The timeline will depend on kidney availability. In the meantime, she will continue undergoing dialysis three days a week at a clinic near her home.

How Can You Help?

There are two significant needs right now. The ultimate need is for a kidney donor, but the family also needs donations to help cover out-of-pocket medical costs.

Ultimate Need: Kidney Donor

We understand that this is a significant decision, and it may come with concerns or questions. We are incredibly grateful to anyone willing to undergo testing to determine if you are a match, potentially saving Layla’s life.

If you have any questions or need more information about the testing process or the donation procedure, please reach out. Your health and well-being are paramount, and any decision you make will be respected Donor facts can be found {here}

Donations to Cover Medical Costs:

As you can imagine, this is the hardest moment of their lives, and this journey will be more like a marathon than a sprint. It will take a lot of time, energy, and money to get through this. It is estimated that a kidney transplant costs around $38,000 out of pocket, even with insurance We estimate an additional $10,000+ to cover expenses associated with lodging, gas, food, lost wages, medications, post-operative care, and ongoing medical expenses.

Your donation, no matter how small, can make a significant difference. Every dollar contributed will go directly toward ensuring Layla receives the care she needs, and her family has peace of mind during this challenging time.

Thank you for your ongoing generosity, compassion, and love. We are truly humbled by your willingness to care for Layla and her family during this time. Please help us spread the word to friends and family who may be able to give.

Thank you, Layla Brown and family
